Game 27 is upon us, and as far as the standings are concerned, this is a must-win for both clubs.
Colorado is coming off a heartbreaking 4-3 OT loss to the upstart Calgary Flames. Highlight reel goals from Matt Duchene and Alex Tanguay couldn't overcome poor defensive decisions and lackluster goaltending at crucial times.
Varly came back from a groin injury after missing 20 days, so he can't be to blame for all of the goals. But, he did flub the puck into open ice in OT for Monahan to score one of the easiest goals of his career.
In order to find success tonight, the boys are going to need to use the same speed as last night, and drill through the Jets' defenses. The bottom six did a great job with physicality, and Mike Sgarbossa is fitting in nicely as a fourth line center. Cliche may be good at PK, but that's literally his only use aside from being a pylon at practices.
Top 6 are going to need to be careful in the offensive zone tonight. Winnipeg likes to play dirty against the Avs, and Byfuglien is a goddamn wrecking ball out there. Crisp, clean passes are a MUST tonight, same for quick outlet passes from our D.
Don't expect the lines to shuffle around too too much tonight. O'Reilly and Briere did some swapping last game. Keep an eye on where Landeskog ends up too. 90-9-92 has been seen before, and it is lethal when they're together.
If we play the way we did last night, the Avs should be able to pick up the 2 points. We need to stop losing 1 goal games, especially in games worth 3 points.
I predict Avs win this one 5-2. MacKinnon and Barrie are due for a few points each.
